I would say that the positions & roles of art therapists in schools depends
alot on what part of the country you're in. I know, for example, that Dade
County, Florida has been hiring art therapists into their school system for
some years. I do not know if these are art teachers who've also become
credentialed as art therapists, or if they are art therapists who do not
necessarily have education degrees. Regardless, I would assume that the art
therapist's role is entirely different than that of the art teacher, unless
they are hired for a dual role (difficult). You might try contacting the
American Art Therapy Association at 847-949-6064 or through their website
at arttherapy.org . They may be able to tell you via their database how
many of us are in school settings & where.
