That's nice in theory however, not all teachers get the student's IEP.
In fact, where I observe for my field experience (in art-ed) the teacher
I observe rarely see's her classified student's IEP. I do believe in
inclusion, but I feel the school and the staff within the school needs
to be properly prepared for the program to work, and this preparation is
not there in many instances.
I had to specifically ask for the school "health watch list" from our school
nurse. I put the pages for each class right behind the class roster in my
plan book and refer to it often. Mostly I use it so I can watch for
allergies. It was not a "complete" list of concerns to watch for, so I added
to it. It has been useful, and hindsight has shown the ones marked "watch
behavior" were the ones that painted on their faces or stole materials. If I
had this list last year (my substitute year!) it would have helped. A few
children I have discovered are colorblind, and I thought they were just
goofing off or being naughty! You may need to go into the school files to
note the IEP's if you are not getting this information to prepare for these
