Liz,
I am interested in pastel dust, also.
I open the windows.
I have the kids carry their artwork to the wastebasket and carefully tip it
so the dust falls in without a cloud. I don't let them shake the paper nor
blow the dust.
I ask if anyone has asthma before we begin.
I found that chalkboard colored chalk was more menacing than pastels. I
stopped using chalkboard chalk.
