I have tried the rainstick project as well. One year we did it
with cardboard tubes and tooth picks. It was ok but didn't take
acrylic paint too well. Another year we made them with clay,
slabs then rolled around rolled newspapers. this worked well,
then we pushed nails thru the clay to make holes. After firing
we inserted tooth picks thru the holes, which we then snipped
off with scissors. Tied the ends off with felt and yarn. Dried
beans were added to make the sound. None really came out
to my liking but we tried.
