I have done a wonderful unit on teaching art thru author/illustrators. I have
chosen Keats, Leonni, Carle and Wildsmith so far. I intro duce the lesson
with research about the authors, thier lives and reasons for choosing to be
children's author'illus. Then we read many books by that author and study his
literary style/illustrative style. We then work together(cooperative
learning) and decide on a theme ( fashioned after the author's) and
illustrative technique(collage:Carle). the kids write the story together and
then choose pages to illustrate. They must work together so that the book has
continuity. We have created 4 books already and they are priceless. If you
would like a more detailed explanation, contact me thru this site and I can
send you info that I have prepared for a presientation I have done on this.
Good luck!!!!!enjoy.
