Nancy -
your post reminded me of a couple of things. First, it reminded me of a
project I thought of, but didn't have time to do, with my hs commercial art
class; I wanted to invent names for bands and have students choose (or draw
from a hat) different "bands" for which to design a logo, concert poster, or
CD cover.

The other thing it reminded me of was something I did in an 8th grade (gifted)
art class; the teacher had come up with a list of real words, not too
complicated or with too many syllables, which no one in the class knew the
meanings of. Each person had to randomly select a word, and then, with much
thought and planning, create an abstract work (in Cray-pas) which represented
not the meaning, but the SOUND of the word. (I recall having greatly renewed
respect for the thought process involved in abstract art upon the completion
of this project!:-) Oddly enough, when the projects were done and the real
meanings were readoff, several of the pieces seemed to "go with" the actual
definitions!
