Melissa and others-
I can't help but agree with your take on this topic. Seeing a body of work by
an artist is so incredible, I'm willing to deal with the crowds. I just went
to Tulsa, OK to see their Thomas Moran and Turner exhibits -- before seeing
them, I had only a vague idea of most of their work, and no knowledge of a
relationship between the two. The Degas exhibit in Chicago taught so much
about the process he used, and where could you have seen Monet's series except
in a blockbuster??? Maybe those of us in more rural areas have a thirst for
the real thing that urban dwellers don't because of their proximity to
museums, but I'd go almost anywhere and fight crowds to see a well conceived
blockbuster. By the way, does anyone know when the Chuck Close exhibit opens
in Chicago?
