About colouring books being OK for 4 year olds, it is the fact that
the child has opportunity to produce his own images on blank paper
which makes all the difference. W Lambert Brittain in his book
"Creativity, Art, and the Young Child comments about the child
drawing and talking.. Describing the images as they draw. He suggests
that a child will articulate his thoughts more while drawing to help him
think. The problem there is for the adult to be around when the
drawing is being done and then giving the child the freedom to talk
about the drawing as it is being produced.
I am not sure about the aspect of "Religious icons and their
Kingdoms?" and Historical data for 4 year olds. A different issue
probably and has more to do with developmental stages of learning
than colouring books.
