That North bit is interesting as a Southern hemispherer I have great
difficulty working out East from West when in Europe. Because the
sun is on the wrong side of the sky. The Sun should be in the
North!!!!!!. All my perceptions from childhood tell me so.
I suppose it is also part of the old Lowenfeld idea of Haptic and
Visual perception.
It also has to do with non-judgemental experiences with arithmetic
and comfort in playing with numbers. I still count the centimetres on
the ruler rather than doing the arithmetical calculations in my head.
