Our teachers at the high school and middle school level have used both
smoulder and raku outdoor firing techniques for years. Recently, our safety
and risk management people have requested guidelines for safe practices and
procedures when these firing techniques are used. I have poured over back
issues of Arts Hazards News and have found nothing. Our adopted text is Safet
y in the Artroom by Charles Qualey. This text does not cover outdoor
firings.

Does anyone have the following:

1. Safety procedures regarding outdoor firings.
2. Processes for successful smoulder and raku firings.
3. Design plans for smoulder and raku kilns.
4. Fire code requirements for outdoor firings.

Thank you for any help you might be able to give.
