What is intriquing about inquiry learning as I study it on the seminar
in Our Place In The World, ArtsEdNet? Students can become more keen in
their observational skills as they sudy a work intently to answer
questions. Students can take responsibility for their own learning as
they search, not for the RIGHT answer but for THEIR answer. They can
pursue a given question, apply it to their interest and pose their own
questions about that interest. They can learn to listen and read
carefully to find answers. This can be a very personal quest which is
what learning is about. The dialogue between students who start with
the same question about the same art object after period of study would
be fasinating. I think that would make a great lesson. Have everyone
give reports about what they found out in the inquiry. I bet you'd have
excitement, disagreements, agreements and great discussion. I bet
everyone including the teacher would learn a lot. Then you could do the
same lesson with another question or use the same question eith a
different art object. Probably it would be reinforcing to use the same
