I have just recently subscribed to this service. I'm excited to find
such a resource as I live on the island of Guam and it can seem very
remote out here in the middle of the Pacific ocean.
I am a second year high school art teacher at a public school. I have
several special education students in each of my classes. I would really
appreciate some assistance in generating new activities for some of
my most challenging students. I have 2 (severly) autistic students, one
is non-verbal and the other speaks (limited) Chuukese (her native
language). I have had the non-verbal student for 2 years already and I'm
really running out of ideas for him. Neither student is capable of
reading/writing (obviously) and cannot utilize complex tools, even
scissors. Also, as is fairly common with autism, they do not like sticky,
wet, etc. things to get on their hands (so clay and playdough are out).
I also have another student who is partially blind, has limited use of
his hands and has a VERY low IQ. I usually have him doing the same
projects as my autistic students. So far I've had them doing things like
weaving, paper mosiacs, paper mache (they're not crazy about it), very
simple stitching, etc. All 3 of these students require a one-to-one aid
and I tend to find the aid doing most of the work for the students.
Here's where ya'll come in...does anyone out there have any project/lesson
suggestions for me?
