The funny thing about color books is that when I was growing up, my
mother decided that they were really bad and made me draw my own
pictures. I can't decide if she was right or not--I mean I did grow up
to become an artist--but I always wanted color books. I guess it's the
one thing I couldn't have-type thing. Anyway, I do buy color books--I
just copied all of a medieval illuminated pages color book and put it
around the room as we did calligraphy to give them designs to ponder
while we did a project. I really do think some people take things too
seriously. I have known elementary teachers who did "original" work who
were much more stifiling than giving a pre-printed design. Every little
part had to be cute according to adults and done precisely so...
Sometimes kids like to not have to worry about the design and just
concentrate on colors and how they look together and mix etc.
