I heard a news item on Australian Radio National this morning about
Ethiopian children missing out on basic education .The item
highlighted the use of Art/drawing as a means of allowing those
children to express themselves. It seems that someone with some
understanding about the importance of art is on the ball. It is a
pity that the same understanding is not all school systems.
Article 13 of the UN Rights of the Child Charter states that
"The child shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right
shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and
ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing
or in print, in the form of ART (my emphasis), or through any other
media of the child's choice".
Article 31 is also of importance to us as it is about the rights of
the child to play
