Welcome to the ArtsEdNet mailing list!

Here's the general information for the list you've subscribed to, in case you don't already have it. Please save this information for your future reference.

ArtsEdNet Talk is an online discussion group for all educators involved in teaching the arts, including arts specialists, general classroom teachers incorporating the arts into their lessons, or teachers putting together interdisciplinary curricula. This discussion group is sponsored by the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, an operating program of the J. Paul Getty Trust.

Now that you are an ArtsEdNet Talk participant, you can submit a question or comment to ArtsEdNet Talk and potentially receive responses from anyone and everyone in the group. Such messages are sent to the entire group and spark discussions among all the participants in ArtsEdNet Talk. Even when you have nothing to "say," you always receive copies of all messages sent to ArtsEdNet Talk so you can continue to enjoy "listening." You can jump into the conversation whenever you choose. Thus, the conversations that take place on ArtsEdNet talk are like those you might encounter at a conference, meeting, or even at a party with colleagues, except you communicate via e-mail. In the future, records of comments and responses will appear on the ArtsEdNet Web site, so that you'll be able to catch up on the conversations that took place previously.

If you wish to send a message to the ArtsEdNet Talk group, please send e-mail to:

artsednet

All messages sent to this address will be forwarded to everyone who has subscribed to ArtsEdNet Talk.

Because you are an ArtsEdNet subscriber, you will begin to receive by e-mail every message that has been sent to ArtsEdNet Talk. If you would like to make a comment, pose a question, or respond to someone else's comment or question, you have two choices:

1. You can send a message to the entire ArtsEdNet Talk list. If you want everyone who participates in the discussion group to be able to read your comment or answer, send it in an e-mail message to: artsednet.

2. You can send a response to only one person. If you want to send a reply only to the person who asked the question, check the original message to find this person's e-mail address. Then you can send your reply to this person directly, rather than to the entire ArtsEdNet Talk group.

In addition to conversations on topics of your choice, ArtsEdNet Talk will often feature special topics with special guests who will be able to answer questions submitted to them by ArtsEdNet Talk participants. The first of these special events, running from January through May, is "Sandy Skoglund: Teaching Contemporary Art," with guests Sandy Skoglund, an internationally known installation artist and photographer, and Drs. Terry Barrett and Sydney Walker, art education professors from Ohio State University.

We would like your help in shaping the future programming of ArtsEdNet Talk and ask that you send us any suggestions you have for topics or guests that you think would be particularly interesting. We would also appreciate any other feedback you can give us on ArtsEdNet Talk. Such comments and suggestions can be sent to the ArtsEdNet Talk group: artsednet. This way everyone will get to see and comment on the suggestions made.

At the bottom of this message, you will find some technical instructions for ArtsEdNet Talk. Please save these instructions for future reference.

Also please note that it is possible to change the way in which you receive ArtsEdNet Talk messages at any time. Right now, as a subscriber to ArtsEdNet Talk you will receive each individual message sent to the discussion group in your electronic mail box. If you prefer you can cut down the number of individual e-mail messages you receive from ArtsEdNet Talk by subscribing to the Digest version. The Digest bundles together about 8 messages on average and sends them to you in a single e-mail message. Instructions for subscribing to the ArtsEdNet Talk Digest are included at the bottom of this message.

Thank you again for subscribing to ArtsEdNet Talk.

Warm regards,

The ArtsEdNet Team Getty Center for Education in the Arts artsednet
