I would like to brag about the work of a teaching colleague, who many of you
would recognize as Getty List member "Carolyn in Massachusetts". She works
in two elementary schools and is required to organize huge shows in both. She
is preparing for her second show, but has just posted photos of her first one
at http://choiceartroom.blogspot.com/. I hope you can take a few minutes to
see what has emerged in her choice classroom: there are examples of comments
on Visual Culture, reflections on the war, personal family images,
collaborative work, individual work, pieces that started out in one direction and ended
up in surprising places, and evidence all around of students pushing themselves
to do their personal best when given excellent instruction coupled with
_real_ choices in their artmaking.
Carolyn has not yet rejoined this list, but I hope that she will be back
soon. I hope you can find inspiration in her wonderful photographs.
