The impending loss of the ERIC system (they're saying it will remain,
but actually there will be little of it left) would be a huge step
backwards for educators who rely upon the system to keep up to date on
current information, trends and research in the field of education.
Please read and act asap: (Note the fax # for Education Secretary
Paige.)

Printable flyer for your faculty room: http://www.saveeric.org/flyer.htm

. The text:

The Department of Education is planning to significantly curtail the
services offered by ERIC beginning in 2004.

The current proposal will eliminate all the subject-specific
Clearinghouses and their websites

The current proposal will restrict access to information, limiting
additions to the database to a pre-approved list of conferences,
journals, and organizations

The current proposal will terminate all ERIC publications including
Digests, bibliographies, and other syntheses of research compiled by the

Clearinghouses

The current proposal will do away with all user services functions,
including question answering and customized searches

Contact your senators and representative before May 9, (contact
information available at http://www.vote-smart.org/) demanding that the
ERIC services be continued!! Be sure to send a copy to Secretary of
Education Rod Paige at Rod.Paige@ed.gov, Fax 202-401-0596.

Go to http://www.saveeric.org/letter.htm for a sample letter and
information on how to contact Secretary Paige and your U.S.
representatives.

You can make a difference!!
ACT BEFORE MAY 9
