I have used Surls as a lesson. We used to make a field trip up to
Magnolia to his studio...magical. He's incredible with kids, and they
love his imagery. I had the kids bring in tree branches and we painted
them and embellished them...made monsters, snakes, serpents, funky
people, etc. I had yarn and buttons and feathers and paint available.
Only problem is that some kids brought branches that were too dry and
some of them broke. Other kids didn't bring a branch, and I had to
supply some. Green branches are better. He moved to Colorado. He is
world famous now. He has a website.
