A realism to abstraction project inspired by Picasso's bulls that I have done
with 5th graders is to have students work in groups of 6 or 7 to draw a
series of drawings of one animal--each group decides what animal they will
draw. After each student completes their series, they each contribute a
drawing to their group to be printed and then arranged from most realistic to
most abstract in a concertina book. Each student makes a book containing a
print from each group member and designs their own cover.
I sometimes find students aren't interested in printing an edition of prints
and this project is a nice way to make printing more than one original
relevant.
