I did this lesson with second through fifth graders on drawing the "Purple
Robe With Anemones" by Matisse. They had to draw a picture of mom for
mother's day using a similiar setting. We talked about the elements of design
with pattern being the: dot, dash, arc, curvy line, zig-zag, circle and
spiral. Is that seven? Patterns can be combined and more interesting patterns
can be created based on using two or more from the list.
