The art educators at the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART use inquiry based art analysis with the student who visit the musuem. It is a wonderful technique...especially for students who are very comfortable looking at and discussing all kinds of artwork.
When I took my 4th graders last year, I received many positive comments from parent chaperones, classroom teachers and the musem educators about how comfortable my students were with discussing the artwork and how insightful their comments.
My advice, start with this method in Kindergarten, letting students share their own work and then moving to art prints....as they get older incorporate the Analysis, judgement..etc. etc. so they have many tools at their disposal for discussing and analyzing artwork.
