Questions for someone just starting out

Date: Sat Apr 20 2002 - 13:40:21 PDT

Wow! I had all these fab questions and now I can't remember all of
them. Oh well, I'll just ask what I can remember. (Hmm, does Art Barbie have
a terrible memory??) Anyway, I am just starting school, at 30 years old and
really want to be an art teacher. The problem is, I worry about a few things.
What if I'm not talented enough as an artist to have a career in art? What if
30 kids at a time all day long will get on my nerves and I turn into a raving
lunatic? The Praxis has me terrified. Student teaching is worse, I hate
feeling like I'm performing. And, do you have to make up your own lesson
plans either as a student teacher and/or as a regular teacher? Also, what if
I can't make it on that salary? Worse still, what if I can't find a job at
all? I have been browsing various job boards and rarely see a post for art
teacher. How difficult was it for ya'll? One thing I have going for me is
that I will be willing to relocate anyway. I should be done with the school
the same year my husband retires from the navy and our baby starts Kinder so
it will be the perfect time to make a change. Somebody please reassure me
about all my fears and tell me my future as Art Barbie is going to be all I
envisioned it to be. TIA Alex
