I do two big projects with 4th and 5th grade using digital cameras. We are
about to begin one where I take several photos of teachers and staff at the
school(s). We decide on three we like at each school. I then grid and number
squares of the photos and assign each class a photo (they dont know which!).
They are cut into squares and enlarged by scaling to size, attached together
(this is great for team work!) and displayed much to the staff and students
delight and surprise! We look at Close works for inspiration and motivation.
The kids love it.
The other way I use them is with portraits. We study Warhol and color,
repetition, etc. Students break their black and white photos into large
sections of importance then cut their photos into layers with colored
construction paper and mount next to same photo rendered in Photoshop.
Awesome fun and very motivational.
Hope this is of interest and a help!
