We are required to do writing across the curriculum but not
as frequently.
I do several different things. One is to describe a
process. Another is to interpret a peer's work. A third is
to describe the use of the element or elements of design
emphasized in a particular project. To make them take it
seriouly I incorporate the writing into the project's
rubric.
One fun thing is to give each student a reproduction of a
work that they describe in detail without sharing with
their classmates. Then they exchange descriptions and the
second student draws from the description. It helps them
look at details.
