Not only is the salary higher significantly higher in the Northeast. Every
aspect of benefits is higher too....from the cost of medical insurance, sick
days, to retirement benefits. In my school district, the only reason I will
get Social Security is because I worked before I taught here in Texas.
Texas teachers for the most part do not get both (depends on their district)
. Also they can't easily claim their husbands either...
Since I'm not at retirement age...and it's confusing...but it seems there is
all sorts of ways to get a bum rap. You really need to get good advice
before retiring here.
By the way...I have lived in Northeast PA for years and now in Texas...the
cost of living is not signficantly different from where we are now....what
you gain in no state income tax here...they promptly take in double the
property taxes...something you pay whether you are employed or not.
