Sharon,
In Puerto Rico, everything is built with concrete. My
husband, who is very tactile, (he's a sculptor) has
handled concrete with his hands but I think it does burn a
bit. He continues to do it, so I guess it doesn't hurt.
But when he does it for a long time, his hands do peel.
I also know you can apply concrete to a chicken wire
armature. In fact, I was at a presentation in Miami about
a group of high school kids who built large outdoor
sculptures for their school and one of them used concrete
over a wood and wire armature.

Good luck with the project. If you want more help, e-mail
me privately and I'll have my husband reply.
Myriam
