While this is not related directly to these area teachers, I just returned
from a fabulous workshop in Omaha NE, sponsored completely by Getty, that
deals with rural arts initiative. Getty knows how to put on a workshop! They
paid our milage and meals (we could have flown as well, but chose to drive),
put us up in the Embassy Suites (I have NEVER stayed in a hotel where I had
my own living room!) Anyways, we discussed the need for art in rural
America - our dreams, ideas, needs, etc... This is for a huge grant that the
area stewards as well as representatives from the 10 US regions will be
writing in June. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will be chosen as one
of the National Reps! I came away with so many different and wonderful ideas
on bringing new ideas into my classroom. I will share some of the ideas if
there is any interest. I also won a small, original Mexican painting done on
amate paper. I am so pumped up! If this grant goes through, there will be
money available for rural America to bring art into the classroom and
community!
