lampworking is working in 'cold glass' as opposed to 'hot glass' which is
glass blowing. It is melting the tip of a glass rod over a flame until it
glows then melts, then letting it drip on a steel rod (that's how you get
the hole)...
We used a propane and oxygen torch , you hold the glass rod in one hand to
heat (working over a lamp) The clear glass rod was spectacular - it glowed
(fiber optics) - I felt like a jedi knight -

The beads are amazing - Cindy Jenkins has a great book with lots of
pictures. This coming weekend is the meeting of the International Society
of Glass Beadmakers (I think in Colorado). They do a neat thing to share
pictures. Twenty years ago they could afford to do a small flier because
there weren't that many beadmakers - they could include photos. Now they
hire a photographer and each interested artist schedules a time to have
their beads photographed. Then they pick a photo to make into postcards
(lots of 500)... then you pay $40 for a complete set of everyone's beads.

the ISGB has a website - but I haven't looked at it.
