There's still hope. I too wanted to be a paleontologist for a LOOONNNG time.
I was so into it, that my parents planned all family vacations around an
area with a fossil bed. We even gave a ride to a paleontologist once whose
airplane! had broken down on the highway. I even went to a college 25 miles
from one of the richest fossil beds in America (South Dakota's badlands).
I'm still into it (and sometimes consider going back to school) but ended up
an artist and art teacher instead.
