Caren,

I have used celu-clay with success but only after the addition of white glue
to the mixture. I found that without it, it tends to fall off of the
armature and is the source of much frustration for the students and me.

We have done many lessons with this medium. My favorite was "canned heads"
lesson that I think I found in School Arts or Arts and Activities many years
ago.
Students designed a caricature of a head ( I don't remember the exact
motivation) then they were given a soda can and using the culu-clay we
modeled their design onto the can. This was done in two stages to minimize
it falling off. The first stage was putting a layer onto the can to cover
the surface. The second was doing the modeling of features with the clay.
The addition of the glue makes it easy to do fine modeling and definitely
improve the adhesion.
The final step was to paint with tempera and to seal with polymer. Turned
out great.

Hope this helps.
