The very first day, I tell the kids (and their parents on parents night) that for the duration of art, they should plan on wearing clothing that they do not mind getting dirty or stained. I tell them that in 16 weeks, they can go back to "nicer" outfits. I take no responsibility when something happens, and do not apologize for ordering staining materials. I do not provide smocks (no room in the budget) but I suggest they bring something and they can leave it in the art room. I should point out that these are middle school students.
