Me too!
When working with elementary children I always send a note home informing
parents of the day "paint' will be used. If the class is large I ask each
child to bring an oversized old shirt they can put on as a smock...If it is
small I sometimes get t-shirts from my husband's business (they have a
screen printing business) and use mess-up to do test prints on for other
customer. When the shirt is printed all over they can no longer use it for a
test print...and I rummage through those and get enough to use as coverups.
I take them home and throw them in the washer and dryer....then they are
clean for the next day. When I have run Art camp in the summer, part of the
package included a printed apron the kids put on anytime when we did messy
stuff...and I wore one during the entire camp (with pockets) to hold
scissors, glue, tape, pencil...kept me from having to make lots of extra
steps....

If the teacher fails to let the parents know...we have some rules we
follow...anyone wearing long sleeves must push or fold them up above their
elbows...I explain the paint will not come out of their clothes...but there
is always one...or two. In the end, it is jsut part of the fallout from
working with kids and parents...

By the way, old plastic flannel lined table clothes make great aprons (like a
huipil) one long piece with a head hole cut. ...and they do great...but they
are hot in the summer time. Hope this helps.
