I have a stylus and nib made for scratch board. Not cheap, but they can be
sharpened and last forever. It's worth the $$ - Temporarily, at the dollar
stores, you can get those big carpet needles in a package - 6 or 7 that can
be used to scratch and several that are curved. I tried nails, pins etc., the
needles worked best. A big nail might work if you can find a way to sharpen
it.Several kids used mechanical pencils without the lead! I didn't try it,
but they said it worked fine!!
BUT!!! all the homemade things can tear up the scratchboard with overzealous
use! I bought enough styluses and nibs for a class set from SAX of course!
We are making our own scratch boards now, with oil pastels and India ink -
homemades are much softer. Good luck!! This is so cool - I followed the
directions you all gave me, and now I can pass them on!! And do try the
watercolor with the bought scratchboards - it is really pretty! I making my
Art 2 kids make 11X14 scratchboards with oil pastels - yes, high school!!
They have never been so quiet!!
