Web page designing (FrontPage) - image formatting

I made a recent discovery...I have been working with FrontPage for a little
more than two years and the Mavica camera for the same length of time. I
never could figure out why the small files originally taken with the camera
doubled or tripled in size when I opened them into a photo editing
program--even if I used Image Composer which is a program the comes with
FrontPage. The images also appeared to be of poorer quality too.

Now--instead of cropping using the software programs --I insert the images
and crop using the picture formatting tool bar in FrontPage. It is much
quicker and the file sizes stay small (19 to 25 K). I save the page
temporarily to the floppy disk to save all of the picture formatting.

I have been making all of the student art pages on the floppy disks this
year so as not to add so many more files to my home computer...this is just
one more time saving thing I have "discovered". I can not send the new art
pages via FTP anyways because the thumbnail file names are too long (Our
server is set to only accept 8 character length file names via FTP).

Please.....no need for anyone to post to the list why the files grow in size
when edited in the software...If I really wanted to know this--I would read
my instruction manuals again (for software and camera). I am just glad I
found an easier way to work with the images instead of opening each one into
the software.

BTW...I am working on getting the finished Mancala animals posted this week
end....the chi-wara didn't get done--but I will get the student back in
sometime to finish.
