A "Word" of caution

I used my "Art with a Message" lesson today with my students. There was one
other site the Joseph Augusta or some one else had posted--but I couldn't
remember the name of it...One of my students happened on it by
clicking--then clicking....It wasn't long before the boys discovered the
"found+insane poetry" from New York....
This is the site for Visual, Concrete Sound + Poetry

http://www.ubu.com/

I told my students it was OK to look at some more of the "Contemporary"
artists (as Michael Basinski is actually a part of this
site)....Well.....they scrolled down too far...There was a lot of noise as
they found the naughty words....BUT on the plus side....it was interesting
to hear comments "Is this art?" ...."Why is this art?"....and so forth...Now
I have a ready made aesthetic lesson for Monday. They also questioned
whether or not Paul du Toit's work was "Art"...Of course I said it was
"because I like it." (tee-hee).

I guess it is a good thing I have a disclaimer on my site....I can not
guarantee that everything the students may link to outside my site is
appropriate.

I sent the "tech guy" a note about it just in case someone later questions
why students were at that site....Funny though...Now the students are more
motivated to write about their own art....They are going to use symbols for
any words that they are not allowed to say in school....some really got into
writing after viewing the sites.

Students made relief sculptures (that include a plaster cast face form) and
are finishing them with collage of words and tissue paper.
