art award demand

What do you think of this? I got a call from an 8th grade parent on my voice
mail today requesting that I chose HER daughter for the "8th Grade Art Award"
at graduation! She went on to say that she didn't know if her daughter would
be deserving of the award, but it would be a real "boost" for her. Although
the child is a good art student there are several other students more
deserving. The award is given to "a student who demonstrates great love and
interest in the visual arts." I work in a private school with very privileged
children, but I have yet to get a request like this! Any comments?
