Ceramic finishes

Does anyone out there know about finishes other than glazes for ceramic
sculpture . The art show is May 9th and grades 1-4 have been sculpting
like mad and all the work has turned out much larger than usual and I'm
doubting whether we'll get it all done even with daily firings.

 I used shoe polish and bronzing powders in college many moons ago but
want something fume free for the little 'uns.
I'm thinking of using ink and acrylic washes,. maybe old eyeshadows and
lipsticks . Are there any other ideas / experiences out there ? Help ! (
I've also had to slow down because I sliced a bit of fingertip off
with the cucumber last night !!! ..... ouch ouch
