A while back while people were oohing and ahing over pantyhose sculpture
someone thought about making them into a mobile. Just wanted to report
that I decided to try it. I bought knee-highs at Walmart , 8 for $1
thanks to someone's great idea. We stretched them over wire forms make
with a hanger with the hook cut off and a loop at the end (other end
wrapped around 2 or 3 times to close). I told each group to make at least
5 forms, various sizes. We gessoed with white latex (an unbelievable
mess-dripped for
hours) and then painted. We are putting them together now, starting with
the small bottom ones and balancing them, then adding another wire etc.
and
we're using fishing spinners so they can rotate freely. I must say they
look fabulous--I like them better than the free-standing ones which all
seem so similar. They're nice and light and airy and move well. The only
big problem was the gesso. Try it! Sid
