Integrating the Art Disciplines Into a
COMPREHENSIVE STANDARDS DRIVEN VISUAL ARTS CURRICULUM

July 15 through July 21, 2001
The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville-adjacent to Princeton
AENJ offers the tenth annual week-long institute on
DEVELOPING A STANDARDS DRIVEN CURRICULUM for a COMPREHENSIVE ART
EDUCATION. $400 Cost of Institute includes all campus meals. Teams of
three or more participants: $375 each. Campus residency is available
at additional cost.

WHAT IS A COMPREHENSIVE VISUAL ART CURRICULUM?
A Comprehensive Visual Art Curriculum integrates the four foundational
art disciplines involved in creating, understanding and responding to
works of art: art production, art history, art criticism and
aesthetics (the philosophy of art), through a written sequential
curriculum.
It involves the integration of ideas, skills, knowledge and creative
experiences that will enable students to:
· develop critical thinking abilities for making art Studio Production
· understand cultural and historical content and the contributions art
makes to society Art History
· respond to and analyze art objects Art Criticism
· develop the ability to raise questions and make judgments about the
nature of art Aesthetics
