Until I took time to be a caregiver for my elderly parents over a
span of 15 years, I did a lot of work in printmaking, which I consider to
be my area of expertise/interest. Have an MA in Printmaking and History of
Art minor from OSU. Art ed degree is from Edinboro State College in PA. I
enjoy doing woodcuts and intaglio the best. I plan to return to this
endeavor when I retire from teaching (for 35 years)following the 2001-2002
school year. There is a new printmaker's cooperative that has started in
Columbus called "Phoenix Rising." It will be so good to smell all the
wonderful odors again and get my fingers all etched and stained. :-) As
for subject matter, I like botanical studies, still life, transportation
vehicles of all kinds, architectural details and unusual alphabets/letters.
When I was in school ages ago I did well in oil painting and watercolor.
Because of my unusual eye condition I did not do well in sculpture,
although I liked doing it. Wood is a favorite medium for me.
In teaching I try to instill in my students a love of books and
libraries as well as the traditional things art teachers do. I encourage
them to visit museums. My other love is music, which I play for the
students during many of their lessons.
For personal relaxation and interest I work-out and swim at the Y,
do lots of gardening, travel, read, sing in my church choir, attend opera
and other musical, theatrical events, visit/correspond with friends and
family. Have a full and happy life for a single person. Thanks to all my
friends on the Getty list for your sharing and caring.
