Well Woody,
It's a great contradiction in french curriculum. I think so.

I think that drawing is essential to have basic technical principles. And
from it to guide students to adapt and transform this technic (to resume what
Picasso has made: a very good academic painting and drawing and his invention
about Cubismus and so on...), to understand the other culture, to compare the
different "représentation" (= depictions ?) systems where drawing has not the
same fonction.

But we must arrived to this objective (in 4 years) without teach the first
stade.
How do ? It's the problem !
I offen have made lessons with slides to observe and reproduce (with Leger
it's enough easy with great shapes) but there is no ministry of education
inspectors behind me !
These lessons were considered too controlled, no place to creative ways.

I don't know if it's a little understandable.
I want work out these comments on my site, but I need make progress.
Subtely...of language.

Pascale
