Sculpey

Dear ArtsEdnetters,

I need a little nudge to be brave and try Sculpey. I ordered it because you
all said how great it was and now I'm afraid to use it. It's the baking in the
oven part that scares me. I want to have my fifth graders make pins with it.
Jewelry pins to make for themselves or their mothers or whatever. I have pin
backs to put on the back. Now - do I have to take them all home and bake
them? How would I keep track of who made which pin? And besides, I really
don't want to take trays of 125 pins home. They might get all scrambled
together in my car. Could I just have the children take them home and bake
them? Of course I might not ever see them again which is ok but I would like
to have some in the art show. Any ideas?

I have to also tell you that when I first began teaching - over twenty-five
years ago - I baked some Sculpey in my oven at home. It caused the oven to
smoke which set off the fire alarms in my whole apartment building. Five
apartments of people had to clear out and of course my husband told everyone I
had been "baking".
