I tried to put my $ 00.02 in on this one the other night but must have
done something wrong because I didn't see it here. So stop me if you've
heard this one...

The "industry standards" are:
Adobe Illustrator = 2-D graphics & illustrations (vector based)
Adobe Photoshop = Any work involving photographic images. I love this
program (see my site, http://www.teamphotoshop.com/). Whether you're a
web or print designer, you must have Photoshop.
Quark Xpress = Page layout and print design. Though Adobe made a
substitute recently (InDesign), few designers have switched over. Hey,
who likes to learn something new?
