The Oct. 97 National Geographic has a lengthy article on him, with many
excerpts from his letters to his brother. According to the article, he
sold many drawings and traded his work for supplies. His brother Theo
bought whatever wasn't traded or given away. It doesn't mention what
one painting actually "sold" (presumably bought by someone other than
Theo).
