Re: tie-dye advice needed

Date: Tue Apr 03 2001 - 03:54:59 PDT

I have tie dyed off and on for the past 15 years.
I have it down to the most simple means.....

100% cotton shirts washed...NO Fabric S.
Soak in soda ash (1 cup to each gallon of water) or baking soda( you will
need to test water mixture for amount needed. PH level needs to be 11)

Ring out extra water,
Put on rubber bands,
Use bottles to apply the dye.
Make sure that you get the dye into the folds of the material

Put shirt in plastic bag for 24 hours...rince out under running warm water
until all the extra dye is out. Wash in washing machine using DAWN dish
washing soap.

The most important step is the soda ash/baking soda soak. The ph level of
the water needs to be 11
