This might be a state by state issue, but when I was student teaching we
were required to teach on our own without the mentor teacher present by the
end of the placement. There were always other teachers within earshot.

First of all...she is never to be left alone with the students. That is a
legal issue. She is a STUDENT teacher...and that needs to be cleared up!!!
Ultimately the responsibility for education and saftey fall with you!
Second...it seems to me that you are really letting her take quite a bit of
responsibility. Tell if you don't see the lesson plans, you can't let her
take over the class! This maybe tough...but honestly...she really needs to
understand what goes into planning a lesson. Then..when she gets the
class....give her the opportunity to teach what she has planned...she will
see...there is always something that gets forgotten or that doesn't work.
That is where she will learn her most valuable lessons. But I would really
lay it out to her that you are legally responsible for what happens in that
classroom...especially with Middle School students!!!!!

Good Luck!

I think she is lucky to have you!
