As a specialist, I prefer to have different ability groupsin each class.
Oneof my schools groups according to ability, and some classes are a
nightmare. You get whole groups that are motivated and stay on task, and
others that are so needy it's difficult to get any projects done. There's no
higher level students around to help or encourage the students that need that
peer interaction. Since there's only one of me to 20-22 students, I like to
have classes where there are all ability groups so they can help each other.
I'ts great for the kids too and they get different view points from their
peers. I know it is needed for classes such as math and language arts, but I
feel it should be a mix when they come to specials. Janet
