Katie Stratford
Vase

For this piece I want to explore the relationship between a sculpture's scale and its surroundings. Jean-Désiré Ringel d'Illzach's vase is monumental in size. It fits within the high-ceilinged gallery room perfectly. For my installation, I would project multiple models of the vase onto the large wall as you approach the Getty Museum's main entrance hall. This location is even larger in size than the vase's current gallery room. These projections were larger than the original vase, reaching up to 22 feet tall. Viewers were encouraged to approach the virtual images and explore their own relationship to the vase as its scale and rotation changed.
