Component One: Literature Review
Component one is an in-depth review of scientific, conservation, and conservation science literature related to identification of different photographic processes.
Component Two: Development of Scientific Methodologies for Instrumental and Analytical Characterization of Photographs and Photographic Material
The second component is focused on qualitative and quantitative analysis of photographs and photographic material in order to facilitate identification of photographic processes and to develop a quantitative methodology for analysis of photographic material.
Component Three: Applied Research
The third component is application of the analytical methodology developed in the project to conservation practice, and to art historical research focused on photographs and photographic material.
Component Four: Decision Tree and Atlas of Analytical Signatures
The fourth component is development of a practical decision tree for identification of photographic processes, process variants, and postprocessing treatment of photographs and preparation of an atlas of analytical signatures of different photographic processes to aid in the identification of photographic materials.
