Component Two: 3-Band Filtered Light Source—Solid Glass Filter Packages
A natural corollary to Component One is the question: can an acceptable substitute for the multi-coated single filter be derived from assembling a small set of off-the-self solid glass filters?

Component Two addressed questions of sustainability in the event that Component One could not be supported over the long term. Software to calculate the required filter spectral characteristics and the effects they have on known color standards, for the most part, already exists. This work was carried out by Terry Schaeffer at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, in collaboration with optical designer Yan Liu.

The thin-film filters described in Component One ultimately proved to be successful for MR-16 lamp sizes and subsequently the solid glass filter approach was discontinued after 2007.
